EXTRA THOUGHTS

Here are some extra thoughts/tidbits about each beat on the EP!

1. Test

The best way to describe this track is that it's "simple and banging". It’s built around one straightforward melody line and a clean, minimal 808 pattern. What really sets it apart is the change-up at 0:35—it gives the beat a fresh twist you don’t usually hear in this kind of style.

2. Real

I love the drum work I did on this. It’s complex yet simple at the same time—a mix of percussion and effects really drives the track. The 808s paired with that NY-drill-style rhythm give it a unique vibe. I’m also a big fan of the subtle VOX sample that pops in throughout the beat—it adds just the right texture.

3. Club Fight

The name of the EP actually stems from this beat. I made it back in 2021, and as soon as I heard it, I knew I wanted to build a whole project around it. I love how hard the kick hits in the mix and how simple the instrumentation is. An underrated part of this beat, in my opinion, is the snare—it just hits right. Also, if you listen closely, you’ll catch a punch sound effect that sneaks in at the start of some bars 😉.

4. Bottom Up

Shoutout to IAmRoofa for finding and chopping this sample. I kept the track simple—just went with some “typical”-sounding hi-hats and claps. Still, there’s something about it that feels like a Benstar signature. I can’t explain it, but my DNA is definitely in this one. The song samples Avant’s “My First Love.”

5. Roll Out

I actually made this beat with Jack Harlow in mind. It’s quirky, uptempo, and built for the clubs. The beat is also really simple and sparse, which I love. One of my favorite parts is how I used that classic Timbaland “dog” sound effect as a transition between sections—I got the idea from SWV’s “Can We.”

CONCLUDING THOUGHTS

Just hit 12AM on April 17, 2025. Currently vibing to SWV’s “Rain” while writing this.

I saw Ye Ali post on his IG story about wanting to work with Tank—so I sent him a beat I had just sitting around that I actually made with Tank in mind. It’s got that Sex, Love & Pain or early 2000s Tank feel, so I had to shoot my shot. Let’s see what comes of it—would love to see a Tank ft. Chris Brown (or the other way around), produced by Benstar record one day.

Anyway, two weeks ago I shot a music video for Text Back along with a few beat performance videos. Still waiting on the MV edit—fingers crossed it comes out dope.

Right now I’m also planning for a June release: 4 beats + 1 song (shoutout to Ye Ali for letting me re-release one of our older tracks). I’m really trying to go all out for this one, so May’s gonna be packed. Tentative title is My Way (R&Ben Vol. 4). Planning at minimum: 1 music video, 4 “making the beat” videos, and 4 performance visuals.

Oh—and I finally cracked 3K monthly listeners on Spotify! Let’s keep that number climbing, man. Appreciate everyone riding with me. See y’all at the next one.
